Self-Service Kiosk for car rental
Project challenge
The client — a car rental company — wanted to offer a fully self-service rental experience. The goal was to allow users to:

select a vehicle type,

sign the rental agreement,
-
pick up the keys,
-
return the keys after the rental
without any staff involvement and at any time of day or night.
This required designing an intuitive, seamless digital experience that could guide users through all necessary steps — including identity verification and contract signing — while also integrating with physical infrastructure like key lockers.
My role
I worked as the UX/UI Designer on a small cross-functional team. My responsibilities included:

mapping out the user flow,

designing wireframes and high-fidelity mockups,

collaborating closely with developers to ensure smooth integration with the key locker system and backend services.
Discovery
Requirements were gathered directly from the client to fully understand the business needs. Following that, user flows were created for both the car rental and the car return with key drop-off scenarios.

Design
Initial wireframes were developed and received client approval, which paved the way for the creation of detailed mockups and an interactive clickable prototype.

Reflections
This project highlighted the importance of presenting a clear and simple process for users who expect a fast and intuitive experience without any staff interaction. Working independently on the entire process helped me develop holistic UX thinking—from gathering client requirements to delivering the final prototype. The next step would be to conduct user testing to refine details and further improve the overall experience.
Final outcome
The final solution included a fully digital order management system tailored to the fast-paced environment of a theme park restaurant. Self-service kiosks helped reduce queues significantly, while clear and responsive interfaces for staff improved communication between front-of-house and kitchen. The system maintained the restaurant’s fast order fulfillment time while streamlining operations and modernizing the customer experience.
